Chants for Transformation
Chanting is about connecting with Divine energy, and chanting in the ancient language of Sanskrit is one of the most powerful ways to make the connection. The vibrational quality of the word in Sanskrit is said to be equal to or link into the highest vibrational quality of that which it names.
Kirtan has become increasingly popular, and as the call and response gains momentum, a lot of energy is raised. Participants become bathed in that energy and it raises their own energetic vibrational level. The brain falls into meditative wavelength patterns and releases desirable hormonal chemicals into the body – all good for body~mind~spirit wellbeing.
In many religious ceremonies and services music is integral for that very reason, no matter the language used, and for many the music is a major draw.
I have learned some chants over the years from my teachers, and today I have recorded two of them along with a descriptive translation. When I feel the need to calm myself and connect with my heart and divine energy, some pranayama followed by chanting and then either more pranayama, meditation or contemplation brings me to a place of greater calm and focus. These days once I begin it doesn’t take long to be in my heartspace, in fact it’s almost instantaneous. I do remember in the beginning it took somewhat longer, but the power of the breath and of the chants themselves really does most of the work and moves focus from mind to heart in short order.
