Week 4: YOGA and Your Beliefs
So far we’ve taken a look at the relevance of the system of YOGA to the body, the mind, and change and transformation. Now we begin to examine the structures of the mind to help uncover the mystery of the beliefs we have formed which govern how we live life.
I thought it would be helpful to begin these last nine days with a review of what we’ve covered thus far.
What we’ve established so far concerning our physical bodies:
- our physical bodies hold the burden of all our stresses
- it is important to develop good habits and take good care of our bodies
- taking responsibility for our health and well-being is the first step to reclaiming our power
- as the mind goes the body follows
What we’ve established so far concerning our minds:
- the mind is necessary for survival, therefore we cannot stop it, empty it or live without it
- the mind is the source of our existential (emotional, psychological, mental, spiritual) suffering and it spills into our physical bodies – where the mind goes the body follows
- our mind is not our mind but is an ancient structure simply filled with a collection of mind stuff
- accessing awareness of and understanding the nature of the mind is essential for personal growth
- the most direct way to access and calm the mind is through relaxation
- what we perceive to be our outer world is merely a mirror image of our inner world
- to develop awareness, understand the nature of the mind and develop a friendship with the mind, is to see it is predictable in its expression, and once understood, everything else can be understood
- Yoga provides tools to access and understand the mind
