Walking Meditation
Practice for Week 1 / Day 3: Walk outside in nature and experience your senses.
Today’s practice is to experience nature with total focus and awareness, as fully as possible. Walking Meditation is a wonderful way to develop intuitive sense as you commit to being By Yourself, With Yourself, to Experience Yourself. This can actually seem like a bit of a scary thing to those of us who prefer group experience, or are constantly “connected.” Others may welcome the opportunity.
I remember preparing for a retreat in India. People would ask what I would be doing there and I would mention meditation, and also that we would all be in silence for a period of time. I was a bit wary of the reaction, and pleasantly surprised when the majority of the responses we were along the lines of, “that sounds wonderful, I wish I could do that.”
BE BRAVE and COMMIT to THIS EXPERIENCE OFTEN
It is so worth the effort
Walking Meditation Practice Video:
For this practice you will be walking outside. The pace is slow. Walk alone in nature incomplete silence, leaving your devices at home or turned off; leave your dog at home, and any companions. Experience nature with total focus and awareness, as fully as possible.
If a thought pattern comes in drawing your attention away from your experiencing of the senses, acknowledge it and return to the sensory experience. Walking meditation can be done with a group, but only works if everyone is at a retreat or workshop, and committed to their own personal practice. It is a solitary endeavor even if others around you are in the practice.
Listen to the explanation in the link and head outside. NOTE: There is also an option for indoor practice if outdoors is not possible. Begin with 5-10 minutes of practice, working up to 10-20 minutes.
The challenge is to be: By Yourself, With Yourself, and Experience Yourself
Be Open to the Experiences of Your Senses and Find the Path of Freedom from Judgment
I hope your enjoy this practice. It has intuitive and expansion benefits.
