Inner World of Yoga – Day 30
My opinion is the real war they are fighting is the one within themselves – a result of the disconnectedness and misalignment in their body~mind~spirit.
Eric Hoffer wrote an incisive little book in the 1950’s that everyone should read, entitled, The True Believer: Thoughts on the Nature of Mass Movements which deals with characteristics common to all movements, whether they are religious, political, social, nationalistic or revolutionary. He identifies the common mind of the adherent and illustrates how they are divided completely from the present moment, yearning and working instead to firmly transplant their rose colored glorification of the past into their idea of a better future.
Unfortunately we see this all around us at this moment, so much so, that the novel 1984, has once again gained traction and readership as George Orwell’s chilling dystopian look at the future published in 1948, is now upon us and his description too close for comfort. There are of course many books and movies with similar time travel and futuristic themes. Curiously, one TV series that has been airing on US television, Continuum, begins with a group of criminals plus one cop, who have been covertly sent back to the past by a very powerful leader, ostensibly to prevent the future societal structure from happening – a corporate structure that was the result of technology invented by the powerful leader. The future society in question echoes Orwell’s vision.
The only way we can create a bright, positive, inclusive future for our world is to work on our own, via our personal spiritual journey.
