Dance Like You Mean It From the Inside Out

If you are someone whose body bolts in the opposite direction when you hear the worddance PLEASE stick with me here — this one thing could very well change your life.

Today’s practice is about allowing the body to move as it wishes, from the inside out, to build intuitive connection, strength and capacity. This is in essence a moving meditation that activates the energy centers or chakras and stimulates flow, release of blocks and balancing of your vital energies.  It can be said that all of the issues that bring up discomfort, from physical illness through our emotional, psychological and mental landscape, are due to imbalances within us.

Dance/movement is a powerful antidote. When we cannot process our experiences completely as they occur, our physical body actually ends up holding the residue within it, whether it is toxic chemicals, residue from bacteria or virus, or emotional residues from experiences we push away and the resulting unconscious decisions we make. Each time this occurs, we are thrown out of alignment or balance on all levels of being, body/mind/spirit.

In Ayurveda, a sister science of Yoga, dis-ease is defined as dis-orderDis means away, apart or lack of.Ease, means comfort or well-being, and order in this context refers to balance. When comfort is lacking it is due to lack of order or balance.

Our physical bodies’ internal environment  constantly reacts to external environment, and disorder arises when the interplay of our internal and external environments cannot be properly processed and we effectively become out of balance. How the imbalance may manifest in each individual is defined by a complex but logical system that includes a proneness determined by dosha (operational dynamics of the structure linked to a “body-type”), the five basic elements of which physical bodies are made (air, fire, water, earth, space) and our biological agnior level of metabolic strength and balance. The system of Ayurveda concerns itself with principles and practices to maintain balance, and what is needed to restore balance when it has arrived at the stage of disease.
