Inner World of Yoga – Day 7
Inner World Yoga- Day 7
Use Your Voice to Vibrationally Balance Energies in Your Body In today’s practice we chant and sing.
As Leonard Cohen’s lyrics say in his amazing hymn, “Hallelujah,” “there’s a blaze of light in every word…” each word carries a vibrational energy signature. When we vibrate positive sound in our bodies we impact our bodies in a very positive way on a physical level, as well as emotional, psychological, and spiritual levels.
Mantras are used in meditations for exactly that reason. When we sound them we create vibration in the body. We chant OM at the beginning and end of virtually all chants; OM being the universal, primordial vibration or sound of the universe; the supreme spirit, the power of creation. Just the syllable OM chanted repetitively can bring a deep meditative state, with a powerful healing vibrational quality.
Chakra meditations are effectively practiced using a specific mantra (sound), yantra (visual image), and visualization of the location within the physical body to direct and vibrate the mantra into while chanting, for each major energy center from root to crown. Mudras, or specific hand positions are used as well to guide and direct energy through the body. Focusing on the practice again moves energy from the busy mind to body sensation, sound and visualization, firing up right brain and stirring up, moving and balancing vital energy within you.
By chanting mantras over and over we bypass our constant mental dialogue, cutting through the mental chatter to the quality the mantra is targeted to enhance or clarify, such as compassion, healing, intelligence, power, protection, strengthening, etc. This is the aim of chakra meditation as well as Buddhist chanting, Hindu chants and participation in Kirtan.
