Inner World of Yoga – Day 8
The mind itself is just content. Different storylines and details that seem so important, and yet for the sake of our fight/flight response only ONE thing is important – the actual FEAR connected to some particular emotion that drives the physiological response and gets repeated over and over. Whether it is your story, my story, a story from any other person on any place on Earth, the FEAR is the same. Your fear is my fear is their fear. There is essentially only one human mind that has evolved and it is very, very old and creates the same internal response in everyone although the story and external responses will be different.
We can’t tame the mind, we can’t lose it or we lose our lives, we can’t empty it, so all that is left is to understand what it is and work on accepting it. To do this, we need to form essentially a friendship with the mind and this is where the system of YOGA excels.
There are many thousands of books, theories and techniques to manage the mind. They can work for a while, but very seldom get to the root cause or provide a permanent solution. People can meditate for 15 years and read a hundred books but if their learning is based on theories and concepts it will lead only to cosmetic change. They go from an angry reaction to a philosophical response, but all they achieve is the ability to hide the anger, jealousy, fear… A constant struggle to change the mind through reasoning, rationalization, philosophy, stress management techniques, doesn’t touch the source of pain. It is just management, becausewe cannot change the nature of the mind.
