Letting Go – Day 9

Shamans and Dreamers: Interview with a Shaman

For today’s piece, I interviewed shaman and psychic artist, Black Feather, about the role of letting go in shamanic work. We will hear from him again later in the week talking about the process of shamanic death. (For more on Black Feather, visit Black Feather Medicine or The Power of Change).

JG: Welcome, Black Feather! Can you please tell us about your work?

BF: As a shamanic healer, I do things like soul retrievals, resolve past-life issues, energy healing, and exorcising undesirable entities attached to people and places, among other things. My specialty, though, is psychic drawing. The illustrations I’m guided to do reveal whatever my/our guides and angelic helpers deem would be most useful for the subject to know at the time, usually in terms of whatever is influencing them that they’re otherwise unaware of. That might involve a description of what spirit presences are around them, past-life/karmic patterns, intergenerational influences, energetic entanglements, limiting perspectives, prophetic information or relationship help, to name just a few.

JG: How important is letting go in the work that you do?

BF: Letting go is hugely significant in what I do. Firstly, it’s essential that as a healer, I let go of any egoic need to impose presuppositions or expectations on how a healing ‘should’ go. If, say, I were to present myself as ‘the ultimate soul-retrieval shaman’ or something like that, and I determined ahead of time that soul retrievals were what I was going to do for every client, I believe I’d be doing them a disservice. Or when I’m doing a psychic drawing, my own experience will only be so helpful, so I have to be open to what’s being presented, not whatever it is that my own mind would try to impose on the process.
