Living in Awareness – Day 11
FLASH
From a psychological perspective, there are only five feelings a human will ever experience. Yes, we have many names for them based upon their intensities or our past conditionings, but when dissected down they ultimately translate to something more fundamental. Sometimes, we even gather more than one feeling together, and give it a new name. It does not matter how you look at them, how you judge them, or how you have collectively named them, there are only five feelings, and they can be remembered through an acronym of FLASH. Fear, Love, Anger, Sadness & Happiness happen to be the forefathers of all of our emotions. This is fundamental to understand because understanding what we are feeling will help you decide what your next action might be. The feeling is giving you a clue on what your next action could be, because the feeling is telling you something about yourself. The feeling is telling you what the “I” is wanting or not wanting regarding that specific situation. For example, if you are feeling happiness, the “I” is getting something it wants, or the “I” is not getting something it doesn’t want. If the “I” is feeling sadness, it is getting something it either doesn’t want, or not getting something it does want. Each feeling is attached to a ‘wanting,’ and once you figure out what the “I” is wanting or not wanting, your course of action is easier to decipher.
There is one other aspect regarding the Trinity of Life, and FLASH. This is the key to pulling it all together, using it, and beginning to be all that you can be. Between each component of the Trinity of Life (Thought, Feeling, Action) there is a pause. This pause can often be brief, and it can be as long as you need it to be. When you began to realize that if you took full advantage of the pause, you can then respond rather than react.
