Living In Awareness – Day 2
The Present
The dictionary defines ‘Present’ as ‘the period of time now occurring.’ Yes, that is the definition, but that does not tell you much, simply because, much like the example I used earlier about World War II, the same event can mean something totally different to each individual that experiences it. That being said, as an event takes place, a person’s mind records it as it happens. However, it records it based upon the individual’s mood, perspective, outlook, judgments, and experiences related to the current event at that given moment. This explains why two or more people can experience one event, and each will have their own personal takes on it.
As the mind is recording the event, it is also scanning its memory for similar events, so that it can be filed away to be used or accessed later.
The Future
Actually and ultimately, there is no future. Not from a doom and gloom perspective, but rather from a reality perspective. Future is a concept of the mind. Future is a projection of the mind that may refer to a far away time, or a future that is right around the corner. However, the future never gets here. Today you may be talking about next Tuesday, but when next Tuesday is in fact here, it is no longer the future, it is the present moment. The future only takes place in your mind, it never gets here.
Yes, you can plan for the future, prepare for it, and plant seeds for tomorrow. Ultimately, that is all you can do relating to the future. I like to call that being the ‘good gardener.’ You know what you want to have in your ‘garden of life,’ so you prepare the soil, get the seeds or the plants that you want to harvest, and then you nurture them while they are growing. However, in relation to the tenses of time, aren’t you doing those things in the present moment?
