Living in Awareness – Day 29
Observing the Breath/Observing the Thoughts
The word “Vipassana” translates to ‘seeing things as they truly are.’ The technique is very simple, but will support you in ways that may not be understood until you begin to practice this technique. Doing this meditation can benefit you in numerous ways, and it will have enormous effect on your own self Awareness.
With this technique, you will observe the breath, and observe the thoughts. Observing the breath will reveal to you many of the wonders of life. Through your breath, you can witness, and easily understand other cycles of life, and the significance that one part of the cycle plays into another part. Through observing the breath in, pause, breath out, pause, you can see that each plays its own part, and you cannot have one without the other. Also through observing the breath, you can see how life moves in and through you. You can see how Existence shares itself with you, and how you share yourself with Existence. Observing the thoughts will enlighten you on the chaotic nature of the conditioned, thinking mind. Also, it will help you begin to understand the difference between having a thought, and participating with a thought after it has occurred. You have been trained through your conditionings to participate with thoughts as they arise. It becomes a habit. In the game of learning how to master the mind, it is incredibly beneficial to learn how to disengage from the random, chaotic nature, and simply observe the active nature of the mind.
