Living in Awareness – Day 6
Living In Awareness Day 6
The Creation Of “I”
You, nor the mind that is reading today’s entry, happens to be the same you that you started off being at birth. At the time of your birth, you did not have the concepts of “I,” you were not yet self-identified, and the conditioned, thinking mind had not yet developed. At the time of your birth, the conditioned, thinking mind was nothing more than a blank sponge, ready to soak up whatever it came across, and it is through this ‘soaking up’ process that “you” begin to develop. The concept of “I” develops as the mind develops. Basically, and systematically, the “I” develops as the child begins to understand ideas such as ‘my hand, my foot, my body, etc.’ The idea of “I” is also reinforced with other ideas such as ‘my toy, my mother, my father, my brother, sister, etc.’ These ideas begin to teach the child about distinction and separation, and before you know it, the child has an “I,” a me, a mine. The development of the “I” is in direct relation to the idea of mine versus theirs. The mind begins to operate through a world of comparisons, identities, polarities, and contrasts. As it moves through this world of comparisons, it begins to experience moments of “I want, I do not want, I like, I do not like. At this point in your life there are many “I’s.” All fighting to be heard at some point, and at other times, it may even appear that many of them are fighting to be heard at the same time. The culmination of these “I’s” is the ego.
