Living in Awareness – Day 6
Ego: Not Necessarily The Bad Guy
Ego: (n) the part of the mind that mediates between the conscious and the unconscious that is responsible for a sense of personal identity.
Every human being has an ego. It is not something that can be dissected or cut out of the body like an organ or an appendage, but that does not make it any less real. It is an intangible thing; however, it is the conditioned self’s operating system. The ego govern’s how a person looks at, perceives, and judges themselves, other people, and the situations or experiences that happen in life. “I like” and “I don’t like” are developed right along with “I want, and I don’t want.” Undoubtedly, the ego lives in, and is based upon a power and control game. This power and control game will attempt to govern a person’s life until that person begins to practice Self Awareness. This power and control game will attempt to dictate how you maneuver through life, as well as how you perceive, judge and either react or respond to life, and life’s situations. In other words, you are taught how to judge and perceive life. These teachings are not based upon Universal truths but rather perceptions and judgments; specifically the conditioners’ perceptions and judgments. The conditioner tells the conditionee how to look at life, and how to judge life and life experiences. You could say that through all of these conditionings, the person’s belief systems, and their ego run the show until a conscious decision has been made to live beyond those ‘trained’ viewpoints.
