Living in Awareness – Day 6

Before I go any further, I do want to make something very clear. Do not confuse being egotistical with the ego. Yes, the ego governs someone’s egotistical behavior, but that is only one way the ego expresses itself. The ego could also dictate someone being shy or introverted, along with many other expressions as well. The ego is just the invisible ‘man in the mirror’ that dictates how a person acts, behaves, and perceives life. Furthermore, everyone has an ego, they could not grow up without one. Some people’s egos are more obvious than others. Even though someone’s may not be obvious, do not underestimate the presence of the ego, and how it governs a person’s life. The thing to remember is this…”YOU ARE NOT YOUR EGO.” Yes, you have an ego, but you are not the ego. Also in conjunction with this, it is also helpful to remember…”YOU ARE NOT YOUR MIND.” Yes, you have a mind, and in that mind is the ego, but you are not either of them. The ego is a funny beast, and an interesting phantom; it fools you into believing you are it. If you fall into that trap and begin to believe you are the ego, its powers seems endless. It can destroy a person. The opposite is also true. Once you see the ego for what it is, or what it is attempting to do, it does not have the same hold on you, and liberation from the ego can begin.

Today’s challenge is to simply become aware of the “I.” I want you throughout the day, no matter what is occurring, I want you to always refer to yourself in third person. For example: As you move through your day, talking and conversing with people, anytime that you would normally use the words, “I, me, my, mine, etc.,” I want you to call yourself by name; refer to yourself in third person. Rather than saying, “I want… ,” or “I think… ,” or “I feel …” etc., I want you to say “Your name wants… ,” or “Your name thinks …” or “Your name feels …”
