Mind/Body Weight Loss – Day 18

Week 3 Shifting Your Thinking

Is Your Meal A Celebration?

I was at a restaurant a few weeks ago with a group of friends in celebration for my birthday.  We went to a great restaurant that serves quality, homemade food from locally sourced ingredients and I ordered the mac and cheese with bacon.  One of the women I was with said, “Good for you”.  I wasn’t sure what she was referring to and when I asked, she said, “I would never order that, I just couldn’t”.  This comment got me thinking – we are scared of our food.

My mac and cheese was delicious. The portion was huge so I only ate about a third of what was on my plate, but I enjoyed it immensely.  The thing is, I haven’t eaten mac and cheese in a restaurant in years, but I was in the mood that night.  I ordered it without fear or guilt because I know that I am a healthy eater.  By me ordering the mac and cheese I am not going to break my diet, because I am not on one.  I am not scared of food.  I don’t eat mac and cheese everyday, not because I shouldn’t, but because that doesn’t appeal to me.  It is far too heavy and decadent to do energy work and I like my fruits and vegetables.  This is the shift you will see as you begin to do the soul level work.

In The Mystic Cookbook: The Secret Alchemy of Food by Denise Linn and Meadow Linn (which I highly recommend), they speak of a word association study where groups of American and French women are shown a picture of a chocolate cake.  The French women would associate that with the word celebration, whereas the American women would associate it with the word guilt.  These are the relationships I have been talking about.  How does food make you feel?  Are you scared of it, does it make you feel guilty and if so, why?
