Week 4 Opening the Heart
Taking Love on a Run So up until now I have encouraged you to get outside and get your exercise and physical activity outdoors. I think that there are benefits beyond just the physical ones to being outside, however I am a realist. I know many of you out there will get most of your exercise in a gym type setting. There are still ways to make it more meaningful if you are going to exercise on a treadmill. Instead of watching TV or reading a magazine while exercising, try doing one of these exercises instead:
1. Love on a Run (or walk): Next time you are running on a treadmill, turn the TV off and use this time to bring love and compassion to your fellow man. Visualize your heart center opening and sending love to every person in the room. Then expand your heart to reach everyone on the floor. Go room to room and visualize sending love to every person in the building. Then imagine holding the whole building in love. Then once you get good at that, send the love to your city, your state, and the country and around the world. This not only helps you develop your visualization skills, and your attention, but it will help create a better world.
2. Visualize your Success: Very often, I will use the time to visualize myself doing what I love and doing it well. For example, if I have a class to teach or a meeting coming up, I will visualize myself feeling confident and doing well. I will go through the whole event in my head, imagining myself with grace, ease and a sense of self-empowerment. I also will spend this time visualizing what I would like to manifest in my life. Now you may argue that you are not being present or focusing on the task at hand, however you will be consciously directing your attention to something positive instead of moving unconsciously.
