Reclaim Your Powerful You! – Day 29
Unfortunately, there are no hard, fast rules for self-care actions. In general, we can assume that if we do things that are good for us, we will be happier, healthier, and perhaps live longer. Yet, we have all heard stories of a 98-year-old man who drank and smoked all his life and loved every minute of it. Regardless of shoulds, self-care is merely an option with no guarantees. Yet, when we engage with presence, we access the power of the present moment – where all possibilities exist.
It is only in the present moment that we can cause change, significant or minuscule. As we cultivate presence, we become more aware of what we are causing.
When we are present, we allow ourselves to experience our being while we are doing. By being present with our task, we can deeply connect with ourselves on both a spiritual and human level while simultaneously become aware of the power of our actions.
So, whether you are cleaning your bathroom, running on the treadmill, or brushing your teeth, I invite you to try doing your task with your full attention and see what it’s like… just BE-CAUSE.
Exercise: Note: Allow at least one half hour to listen to the audio in addition to the time it takes to complete a task.
After listening to the The Power of Being Present audio, bring your full attention to your being and your doing during one basic task. To help you stay attentive to your undertaking, eliminate distractions such as TV, music, texting, or any form multi-tasking. Perhaps you wash a load of dishes by hand, re-pot a plant, bathe your dog, or fold clothes. Whatever it is you choose to do, notice what you are doing. Pay attention to your hands, feel the texture of what they are touching. Examine, smell, listen. Stay aware of your thoughts and feelings. Be mindful, as best you can, through the entire task.
