Recommit and Reconnect to Love – Day 18
Recommit and Reconnect Day 18
Does your romantic partner take the back seat to your friends? Do you find it easier to share intimate details of your life with your best girlfriend than you do with your mate? Do your friends get the best of you, while your partner only gets what remains at the end of a long day? Of course sometimes it is easier to share things with your friends, like the latest Valentino shoe styles or problems you may be having with another mutual friend. Being able to be totally open with your romantic partner takes a fair amount of trust and being comfortable with them.
Many people want the one they love to be their best friend and are upset that the friendship seems to have been lost (or never existed). Take a good look at your friends and the one you love. Are there things you would never say or do to your friends but you do to the one you love? How do you speak to your friends vs. your romantic partner? Do you treat your friends better than your partner? Do you laugh and joke with your friends but don’t seem to have any of that left in you when you get home?
Today we will challenge you to start treating your partner as you do your friends. Talk to him about what makes you happy. Tell him what makes you sad. Today we would like you to think of something, any detail of your life, that you may have hidden from your partner or have not spoken to him about. Now we are not talking about the weekend you took the road trip with the baseball team and don’t remember much of it. We are talking about something in your life that you have not shared with your partner because you have felt more comfortable to share it with your friends. Open yourself up to your partner and really deepen the emotional intimacy that is between you. When your lover and your best friend are the same person, your relationship will take on a greater significance in your life, as the bonds between the two of you deepen and grow.
