Diminishing Marriage
It is funny, I woke up this morning and my marriage seemed to be intact. I called a few of my heterosexual married friends and they said the same thing. It appears that same sex marriage does not seem to weaken my marriage. Do you know what does weaken a marriage? Showing disrespect, unkindness and intolerance to your partner. That will weaken a marriage faster than anything else. If we want to talk about creating a strong society, then ostracizing a group of people only wanting to be able to express love for their partner doesn’t seem like the right approach. Having children growing up in fear of sharing who they are or adults, who can’t be themselves, has a much larger impact on our fabric of society than being ok with two people of the same sex getting married.
Life, Liberty & Oppression?
You don’t have to fully embrace the idea; you just need to be respectful. And realize that this isn’t about your morality, it is about civil rights. You don’t need to protect God, he doesn’t need it. If you want to have the conversation about what creates a strong society than lets all agree that love shouldn’t be shameful or hidden. That it is ok for you to be who you are as long as you are respectful to others regardless of your sexuality. I have heard from many that America is the greatest country in the world because of our freedoms, how quickly we would like to diminish the freedoms of others when it doesn’t fit into our worldview. If you believe in life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, then do just that. You may not like it, but you should at least recognize the hypocrisy of your view. We cannot pick and choose which liberties people should be afforded. Either you are for it or not, your personal view of morality has nothing to do with it.
