The ABC’s of Actively Being Conscious Day 14

L is for Lucid Living

Do you know what a lucid dream is? It’s a dream in which you know you’re dreaming while you’re in it. So even if it’s a scary dream, when you know you’re dreaming, you can enjoy it!

But whether a dream is lucid or not, who is it that’s experiencing the dream? It’s you.

And as you know, your dream can’t hurt you. You are truly not at stake in it. You’re just experiencing it.

Life as a Dream

It’s the same with “real life“.

And whether your dreams are lucid or not, your life ideally is.

A lucid life means that at some level you are “awake” and aware enough to not be totally caught up in your story. At that level of consciousness, you can watch this life as if it’s a dream. (In fact, who’s to say this lifeisn’t a dream?!)

You really are not at stake in it. At least, not the real you, the you that you are in essence. You are immortal and cannot be touched by it in any way, shape, or form.

Today:

  1. Play with the idea of Lucid Living — that this life situation you are experiencing is a dream, and that you are awake enough to know that.
  2. Play with the related idea that you are not at stake in this life. You don’t have to believe it if you don’t want to. It’s great if you do, for life becomes a fascinating adventure rather than something threatening! But even if you don’t, then for the sake of this exercise, just see if you can pretend to believe it for now.

And then see what happens!

Row, row, row your boat Gently down the stream. Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily. Life is but a dream.

~ Children’s Nursery Rhyme & Song Do let us know how it went. Did you feel different? How? Did new options open up to you? New possibilities?
