The Path of Misunderstandings

Why Not Knowing The Answers Is Spot On!

By Cori Savenelli

So often we wonder why the heck we can’t understand the actions of another. Be it a partner, a co-worker, family member or friend, we so often search our brains for an understanding of why they act or feel the way they do. We wonder what it is about them that makes us feel a certain way and what it is about them that perplexes us. We can’t understand why they dislike us, why they are always angry, why they seem to want to get our goat or make life miserable for us.

They answer is simple. We will never know, and more importantly, it doesn’t matter.

Even more importantly, the right question is “What is it about ‘me’ that makes me react to their behavior the way I do?”

Even if by chance, the opportunity arises that we are able to confront the situation, the answers we are given still somehow seem to be inadequate. This is because the answers we receive work to benefit the situation, not the state of mind or spirit of either party.

Have you ever been in a relationship during which the actions of your mate seem motiveless and strange? We’ve all read books on the interaction of men and women, how to “read the mind” of a specific gender or how to “retrain” a person to fall in love with you. Although the psychological techniques, or hypnoses, if you will, have merit and can be beneficial in the short term, the understanding of that person will not increase, nor will the interaction benefit your growth.

The inner workings of the brain and spirit are very individual. They are personal and are packed with subtleties that even the spirit itself often does not understand completely, at least not on this plane of existence, or until it’s found peace.

The key to having insight into anything around us is having insight into ourselves. This can be accomplished in many ways, via philosophy of the mind, spirituality or experience, however it is essential to understand that ALL experiences lead toward the growth or our spirit. It is only through the realization of our purpose, the attainment of love in all it’s forms, that we begin to accept that understanding another for our own sake, serves us no more purpose than to avoid exploration of ourselves.

If we were meant to understand the actions and emotions of others completely, we would have nothing to learn from them, would feel uninspired by them and thus have no need for their company. It is through our differences that we learn to love completely.
