An Officer and a Gentleman and the Gifts of a Spirit Medium
By Sunnie Brooks
The audience was standing room only at the breathtakingly beautiful and historic Stage Neck Inn overlooking York Harbor in Maine. An extraordinary experience began during the evening, when impressions of an audience member’s grandfather came through in vivid detail to Spirit Medium Sunnie Brooks: “Battleship!”
The spirit’s granddaughter Megan knew immediately that it was her grandfather, Herb, who had served on a Navy submarine. “Tommy Dorsey” was relayed next, along with distinct sounds of Big Band music, which were recognized as being popular during World War II. Megan confirmed this as accurate. Herb or “Grandpa” as he was called by Megan, presented himself as an image described as handsome, in his prime, with prominent eyes. He wore a highly decorated cap, indicating a high-ranking naval officer. Megan confirmed that he had achieved the rank of Rear Admiral.
His personality came through as very tough but fair, his mind sharp and highly knowledgeable about all facets of maritime management. He also expressed remorse over sending so many men to their deaths during wartime. Megan was also able to confirm the Japan connection that Sunnie mentioned, that he had indeed been positioned in that area and in the South Pacific. The repeated image of sinking battleships was accompanied by a feeling of remorse that Megan mentioned.
Next, two boys and the message that Megan had been, in his words, “a bit soft on them” was confirmed by a smile and a nod by both Megan and her husband. Grandpa expressed that he wished he had lived longer so that he could have had more influence on her two sons. He advised her to stay firm in her points of view with them and commended her for being a very good mother.
