Total Body Cleanse: Needed or Just A Fad?

total body cleanse

A lot of people wonder if it is necessary to have a total body cleanse. I pose the question back to them as this: Do you clean the outside of your body? Then why not the inside? Actually, most of the things that make us sick are actually inside anyway. The un-natural, processed chemical that we ingest on a daily basis are what is really hurting us the most, not the things we touch. Don’t believe me? Take a look at your garbage can some day. One word: yuck. And you ate that stuff. You and your family. So what’s in the can is a reflection of what’s in the body. Therefore, I believe that it is beneficial every once and a while do a total body cleanse to flush the system clean and get a fresh start. A total body cleanse can be a great way to kick off or jump-start a new eating regimen, rev up that metabolism and give a jolt to the body in preparation for a new workout routine that sheds off the pounds.

Beyond just the chemicals that pump you full of sugar, cholesterol, and preservatives, toxins are also present. These chemicals and pollutants need to be removed. Some research suggests that these substances contribute to heart disease. Our body does a good job of eliminating it, but over time, any system begins to wear down. Let’s take a look at the 7 ways the body eliminates wastes.

7 Areas for a Total Body Cleanse

1. Bowels – Disposes of toxins from the digestive system and the liver. Cleansing the colon helps clear the way for other organs to function properly and help purge the body of unwanted toxins.

2. Blood – The main medium through which all substances circulate through the body. Healthy blood circulation is crucial because it transports toxins to other organs for proper elimination.

3. Skin – Sweat is another means of transport of toxins. It travels through the pores in the skin. Skin has a big advantage because of its’ large surface area; disposing of more waste (by sweating) than the kidneys and colon combined.

4. Kidneys – Remove the waste products from the blood, eliminate toxic substances in the urine, and receive water-soluble toxins from the liver for processing. They are the filter mechanism of the body; bringing in volumes of blood daily to maintain the body’s water balance while excreting toxins and excess fluid through the bladder.

5. Lymphatic System – Transports wastes and toxins from cells and the circulatory system to the organs involved in the elimination of toxins from the body. Also carries immune cells in a network of channels that follows the body’s bloodstream.

6. Lungs – Purges toxins from the body during exhalation. Deep breathing also increases the flow of lymph (which you read above) which further helps to eliminate toxins.

7. Liver – Among a ‘gazillion’ other functions, it uses chemicals to convert destructive toxins into less harmful substances that the colon and kidneys can eliminate.

OK. I think it goes without saying that if any of these systems begin to shut down even by the slightest percentage, things can go bad in very quickly. Performing a total body cleanse can refresh these systems and get the body acting as the efficient beast that it was made to be.
