Slowing Down, Finding Meaning: Mindfulness in an Urban Landscape
Most of us are on-the-go at all times, running from one project to the next, fretting about the future, or holding tightly to the past. Living in the speed of New York City only augments this busyness.
This event will explore how mindful actions can help us find tranquility in the midst of over-stimulation and generate joy and kindness even in moments of stress.
WHEN: Thursday, October 10 | 6.30pm – 8:30pm | Free and open to the public
WHO: Ira Glass, host and producer of Chicago Public Radio’s This American Life, will moderate a discussion with: Brother Chan Phap Vu, a Buddhist monk and Dharma teacher from Thich Nhat Hanh’s Blue Cliff Monastery, a practice center in the Catskills offering mindfulness retreats; Joanne Friday, a Dharma teacher in Thich Nhat Hanh’s tradition and an Associate Chaplain at the University of Rhode Island who regularly leads mindfulness retreats in the U.S. and Canada; Zack Foley, a jazz musician, waiter, and social work student at Hunter College who facilitates Wake-Up New York, a movement of young mindfulness practitioners who hold weekly sessions in downtown Manhattan.
