October’s program focuses on the exhibition Soundings: A Contemporary Score. This is MoMA’s first major exhibition of sound art, with work by 16 contemporary artists. The exhibition posits something specific: that how we listen determines what we hear. The works provoke and evoke modes of active listening, a heightened relationship between interior and exterior space, and shared aural spaces.
Access Programs are made possible by a lead grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. Major annual support is provided by MetLife Foundation. Additional support is provided by The Friends of Education of The Museum of Modern Art in honor of Michael Margitich, an anonymous donor, J.E. and Z.B.
