WALK-IN – Up Close with the Director Scott Blum
As the co-founder of the popular inspirational website DailyOM, did it help you prepare to write your books and screenplay?
The main thing DailyOM contributed was giving me the directive to trust my intuition instead of second-guessing my decisions by trying to make them what is considered “smart” or “logical.” There is very little logic that would support a successful executive taking time to write and market spiritual novels, let alone writing and directing a feature film without any experience. But it was definitely the right thing to do when looking at it holistically.
The film WALK-IN is based on your amazon bestseller “Summer Path” —-one of a trilogy of books published by Hay House– What inspired you to turn it into a film?
The producers Mike Wojciechowski and Frank McEnulty approached my wife, Madisyn Taylor, about making a DailyOM film but she wasn’t ready to make a film yet from a creative standpoint. She suggested that they talk to me since my books were already written and many people have felt they were cinematic in style. And although I was flattered, I eventually turned them down because I was concerned that another director wouldn’t be able to be faithful to the characters that I had been living with for years. To my surprise the producers offered the directing role to me, which was something I couldn’t turn down.
Your novels (published by Hay House) and your new film WALK-IN cover very “spiritual/metaphysical” topics. Were you always drawn to these topics?
