Omtimes: What’s the difference between an Afformation and an affirmation?NoahHeadshot-hires

NOAH ST. JOHN: An affirmation is a statement of something you’d like to be true in your life. Traditional success teachers have taught us for decades that if you want to change your life, you should change your thoughts. So they naturally told us to change the statements we’re saying to ourselves.

An Afformation, however, is an empowering question that immediately changes your subconscious thought patterns from negative to positive. For example, a classic affirmation is, “I am rich.” Yet when most people say that statement, their very next thought is, “Yeah, right!”

When you ask an Afformation, you use the brain’s “embedded presupposition factor”, which means your brain is automatically wired to search for answers to questions.

Omtimes: You talk about The Belief Gap being the real reason most people have trouble changing their lives. What is The Belief Gap and how does it affect us?

NOAH ST. JOHN: When you want to change your life, you want to go from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be. I call that going from your Current Perceived Reality, or CPR, to your New Desired Reality, or NDR.

Between your CPR and your NDR lies your Belief Gap. That means, most people simply don’t believe they can make the changes they want for their lives.

For example, millions of Americans want to lose weight. Yet we know that in order to lose weight, all you have to do is eat right and exercise. So how could there be an obesity problem? The answer is, if you asked most people if they honestly thought they could lose weight and keep it off, they would answer, “No, not really.” That’s their Belief Gap.

And since they don’t believe they can do it, they don’t take action, so they don’t get the result they want, so they don’t believe they can do it, and so on. That’s why The Belief Gap is the real reason most people find it so hard to make the changes they want in their lives.
