Tough Love with Kyle Keller
Omtimes: You were given a nickname that deemed you “Ms. Disconnected”. How did that make you feel and how did you overcome any obstacles that might have caused you?
Kyle Keller: Well at first I kind of laughed a little bit. I was like “oh Ms. Disconnected” because Steve said I like to date long distance and had a fear of intimacy, and I kind of laughed at that because I don’t have a fear of intimacy. I want to get married and I want to have children.
I think it was just being disconnected with me having my guard up, and I really learned to be vulnerable and wear my heart on my sleeve. Whenever I talked to someone, say I am on a first date…some of the questions Steve had told me that I’m asking were surface questions. He was like yes you interview people for a living—you’re a correspondent—but just dig a little bit deeper. But if I’m on a first date with somebody, I’m not going to say am I the kind of girl you can take home to mom (laughs).
It is kind of funny. I am going to ask questions to get to know the guy. Do you like sports? Where did you go to college? Do you have any brothers or sisters? Are you close with your family? Where do you see yourself in so many years? I know those are kind of surface questions but when you are on a first date you need to get to know the person on that kind of level you can’t just dive in otherwise I think if I was on a first date with a guy and was like oh I should meet your mom I think she is gong to deem me crazy. Steve felt I was playing it too safe all the time, but I think I definitely have a happy medium between all of those.
