Yogi Cameron – A Model Guru
JVM: As a Yogi, Healer and spiritual teacher what is your main mission?
Yogi Cameron: Each of us begins life relying on the outside world to make us happy, and yet this is a paradox. It’s not the world beyond ourselves but rather that which is within that ultimately leads to a joyful existence. In response to this, I work to guide people away from this suffering and towards their purpose in life. I help them to get started with or deepen their spiritual practice so they can live a meaningful and fulfilling lifestyle.
JVM: How do you maintain your inner peace and humility coming from a seemingly superficial industry which is so focused on youth and outer beauty?
Yogi Cameron: One thing I like to say is that practice makes purpose. Even when working in an industry as seemingly superficial as fashion, there are moments of truth and a sense that there is something more to life. But this can happen with anyone, in any industry. When I began to feel like there was something more, I dipped my toe in and experimented with the Yogic lifestyle here and there. But it was through a daily spiritual practice that I began to feel actual inner peace. There is no other way.
Everything about the outer world is keeping us from experiencing balance. It is therefore my routine to bookend my days with a few hours of practice, which ultimately ensures a peaceful life.
JVM: While Yoga has become very westernized you seem to challenge the idea of Yoga as a trend and tout a practice based on the Yoga Sutras, philosophy of the Yogic Path based on Patanjali’s teachings?
