Miracles Do Happen – An Interview With Brian Weiss
Brian Weiss MD :The process of past life regression is very similar to the psychoanalytic technique. Remembering the traumas, either in this life or in others, has a healing effect. Bringing to light the memories and understanding from a greater perspective can cure the symptoms that result from the trauma.
Many of my patients have gone on to document the facts that have emerged during their regressions. Some of the lifetimes are not that long ago so research and validation are possible. The internet has helped greatly.
JVM: Does everyone you work with experience a regression? Can you hypnotize everyone?
Brian Weiss MD :Not everybody is able to experience a regression to a past life, but about sixty to seventy percent of people can do this. Not everyone can be hypnotized because this is a process that requires concentration and some people have great difficulty with this.
JVM: How can you tell if a past-life recollection or a future memory is real or not? Can it bE fantasy or metaphor?
Brian Weiss MD : A past life recollection can be real, fantasy, metaphor, symbol or a mixture of all of these, like in a dream. A good therapist can sort out and integrate all the material that has emerged during the regression. Those memories that are primarily accurate or real tend to have a different feel or tenor to them and are often accompanied by emotions. They have a different quality than daydreams.. Real memories can heal physical and emotional symptoms. Imagination doesn’t heal symptoms.
