Celebration of Spring

spring_OMTimes

As many of us look outside right now, seeing all the snow and feeling the bitter cold, it feels hard to believe that the spring equinox is here! It come, as it does every year at this time, bringing warmth along with it. For centuries, people all around the world have celebrated this season when both sides of the world have approximately equal times of daylight and darkness…the beginning of a new cycle.

Nature keeps its rhythm. We can trust that, beneath the mounds of snow and ice, there are tiny seeds beginning to come awake. The crows are boldly announcing the approaching spring with their caws as they come out of their winter hiding. If you look up you will see other birds gathering in the trees, and you can hear their chattering back and forth like old friends meeting for the first time after an adventure.

The squirrels are scampering across the snow-covered yards…a moving black dot on a clean, white page. The air is a little sweeter, the sun a bit warmer, and our hope of spring is stronger. We have waited and endured the long, dark, and cold nights, and we are now ready to see the earth reborn.

The winter was a time for reflection and planning, a time to go within and discover who we are, what we desire, and what our purpose may be. We may not have acquired all the answers; but, if we truly set our mind, body and soul on asking the questions, then listening for the answers, we will have received at least some direction. It may have come in a loud booming “voice,” or knowing, or it may have been through the people we met, a book we read, or an event we attended. Perhaps the answer is yet to come, and that is part of our new beginning this spring.

By allowing ourselves to trust that Spirit will guide us where we need to go at just the right time, we may find ourselves on many an adventure this year. In the New Year, we may have set goals for 2014–perhaps through a vision board or journal. Now would be a good time to open them up again and see what seeds you planted a few months ago.

What did you desire then? Is it the same now? This would also be a good time to update your journal, add notes and pictures, record the synchronicities, or enter new ideas and desires. Just as the spring is the season to plant our gardens, we can plant our dreams, aspirations and goals. Now is the time for our own rebirthing and beginning and a time to manifest our thoughts into reality.

Every day is a new beginning and a chance to start fresh. The spring is a reminder that even in the universe, there is a time of rebirth. This is a cycle that has gone on for centuries, without change. Our ancestors acknowledged this was a very special time of year, a time that only happens twice in the yearly cycle, so it was to be celebrated. How fitting that we have this time as a new beginning, with the fall equinox as a time of closure. Both offer us a time to show gratitude and a time of planning and preparation–one to start the cycle of life and the other a time of harvest.

The past winter has been cold and long for sure. We can trust the spring will arrive. In time, the snow will melt, the bugs will come to life, the birds will nest, and the new animals will be born. The earth will bring forth green grass and spring rains. Soon, the fields and woods will be dotted with an array of spring flowers. Each day, the sun’s warmth will grow stronger and longer. We will no doubt look around our house and yard to discover jobs to be done, and our plans for outside work begins.

Spring is our time of transformation. Like a butterfly ready to shed the cocoon, we are now ready to be released from our time of reflection and take those thoughts into action.  Let us all go into this season of spring with love, compassion, and these positive attitudes:

Affirmations for Spring

May we take time to review our “vision” for the year 2014, so that we can then seek direction in its magnification.

May we allow ourselves to trust that all will be revealed to us when the time is right.

May our eyes, ears, and heart be open and ready to receive all messages and signs.

May we remember to take time daily for meditation, in order to maintain focus and clarity.

May we understand that everyone, including ourselves, is doing the very best they know how at this moment in time.

May we look for beauty and love in all things, no matter how dark it may appear on the surface.

May our intent be for the higher good of all and come from a loving heart.

May we truly feel the connection we have between each other, the earth, the universe and spirit.

May we remember to be grateful each morning and night for a least one thing.

May we allow ourselves forgiveness of our deeds towards others and of what others have done towards us.

May we face our shadow side and gather strength from it rather than allowing fear to rule our decisions.

May we accept we are on a journey and all things that come our way are part of that journey designed for us to experience life.

May we not be so focused on the future or taken up with the past that we forget to live today. (Today will be tomorrow’s yesterday!)

May we always look for the God in others, as we pray they can see God in us.

May we know that we don’t need to wait until a full moon to give thanks to the directions:

The east is a new day, a new beginning;

The south is the gratitude and respect we show to our ancestors and their traditions;

The west is gratitude for the setting sun and the hope of a new tomorrow;

The north is our own journey spread out before us…endless possibilities;

The sky is the vastness of the Universe and a reminder we, too, have stardust in our DNA.

The earth is our source of life and abundance. She gives to us and we are to protect her.

The spirit that joins all things is in all things–God within and around us.
As above, so below…Namaste.
