Candling and the Immune System
Candling and the Immune System
by Jili Hamilton
What is the connection between candling, or the use of ear candles, and the immune system you may ask? Don’t the candles operate like a chimney, drawing all sorts of debris out of the ears? Aren’t they used as ear cleaners? After all, some manufacturers promote them as such.
Well that’s not the story at all; in fact it couldn’t be more wrong. First of all, candles do not draw. Secondly, although they improve the flow of cerumen, helping to soften any hardened wax or to slow down a too-rapid production, their purpose is not to clean the ears. If you use candles with an in-built filter and open the stubs after the treatment you will find debris between the filter and the part that has burnt down; there will be nothing between the ear and the filter, proving beyond doubt that any residue is candle debris.
The Immune System
Where does the immune system come in, what is it and what does it do? It is our line of defence against illness and keeping it in good condition should be a priority. How does it work? Our whole body is irrigated by a liquid called lymph which flows through a chain of capillaries, a system of tiny thread-like channels. A series of ganglions in strategic places such as behind the ears, under the arms, in the groin, behind the knees receive this liquid from the capillaries and cleanse it of its impurities. When the lymph is flowing properly our body is well protected against invaders.
