Joe Cross – Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead
Marlise: Let’s talk about the emotional quotient. What are you advising people to do when they’re in the midst of a juice plan and these triggers go off inside them?
Joe Cross: There are a number of things that probably need to be explained. And that is, if someone’s doing, say, a reboot, a reboot is a period of time where you only consume fruit and vegetables. So you’re essentially saying goodbye to all animal and all processed food, and also nuts, beans and seeds. You’re not having those either. You’re just having fruit and vegetables. And most people have it only in a liquid form. But we’re not talking about a blender, where we pulverize the plant. We’re talking about a juice. And a juice extractor. What it does is extract out the water from the plant. So this way it quickly — if you think about a cucumber, a cucumber comes wrapped in this beautiful sort of skin. That’s Mother Nature’s delivery mechanism for putting all the nutrients that are only found in plant food into your body so it can be delivered to your cells.
But the actual skin and the fiber and the structure, we don’t actually use that. We actually pass that through our bowels. What we’re extracting out is the stuff on the inside. And most of that — like, 99 percent of it — is in the water. So what we do when we juice is we — kind of like oursourcing digestion, if you like. So the first three days when you are on a reboot, the penalty for not eating, in other words, for not putting that big fiber into your body, the penalty is very severe. Your body is going to be saying, hey, hold on a second, Joe. You’ve forgotten to feed me. I’m going to make life miserable, cranky, angry, lonely, cold. It’s a severe penalty. Lack of focus, being incredibly tired because — just think about it. If this penalty wasn’t so high, we would have forgotten to eat many, many years ago and none of us would be here.
