Mpho Tutu: Book Of Forgiving -Exclusive Interview

choose-to-forgiveOMTimes: What comes to mind when with the notion of accepting the apology you’ll never receive?

Mpho Tutu: What comes to mind for me is that the person who can accept the apology they’ll never receive is a person who has made a key for themselves. I’m not going to wait for you to make the key that frees me from the trauma. I’m going to make it myself.

OMTimes: Couple more things. What do you adore and love about your father [Archbishop Desmond Tutu]?

Mpho Tutu: Snap answer? That he loves me. (laughs) Second answer? I love his laugh. Honestly I think the first answer was right. Yeah.

OMTimes: Why are you here on the planet? What’s your calling?

Mpho Tutu: I’m here to change the world. I have always had maybe the audacity, maybe the arrogance to believe that I’m here to change the world, to make it a better place. I didn’t ditch that thought when I turned 20 or 30 or 40 or 50 (laughs). I believe that if I can make life better even for one person than I’ve already changed the world. OMTimes: Yes, you have, dear Reverend Tutu.

Mpho Tutu: You’re entitled to your pain. You are. I’m not going to tell you to stop hurting. I want to offer you a way out of your pain and the four steps of the forgiveness process can be the way out that you need. You can only do that when you’re ready to do that and I hope you’re ready soon.
