Deepak Chopra: One World
I recently saw one of your first Oprah appearances on TV. It seems like what you were talking about over 20 years about is finally becoming mainstream. You are one of the more influential figures in the growth of spirituality in the West in modern times. Let’s talk a little about you.
OMTimes: How do you feel about “spirituality” becoming in vogue or trendy?
Deepak Chopra, M.D: I define spirituality as self-awareness and I think the more self-awareness we have the more access we have to the power of intention, insight, imagination, creativity, and choice. beliefs, desires, memory and creativity.
I couldn’t refer to it as something tendy as we have been building up to this for the last 30 years.
OMTimes: You often quote Rumi. Who were you most influenced by?
Deepak Chopra, M.D: I have been influenced by sacred poetry all my life. This includes the great visionary poets like Walt Whitman, William Blake, TS Elliot, Rumi, Tagore, Mira Bai, and H?fez.
OMTimes: Of all of the books you have written, do you have a favorite?
Deepak Chopra, M.D: The Book of Secrets is my most advanced contribution to the understanding of spirituality. My next book The Future of God will take this understanding a little deeper.
OMTimes: If there was one person “deceased” you could talk, who would that be?
Deepak Chopra, M.D: The list is too numerous to choose a favorite person. But if I had to do it, I would love to talk with Adi Shankara the great Sage and exponent of non-duality who lived in the 8th century.
