Janet Mock – Redefining Realness
Janet Mock: I think for me a lot of that was about what you speak about in stillness. And I think for me it often it came through holding myself accountable to my truth. When I can sit down with myself and write, it helps me through that maze of self-doubt – out of trauma, and out of pain, and to go to a different space where I can recognize it, acknowledge it and hopefully move past it.
Marlise: Exactly. So you are clearing out the clutter and you are setting the stage for something great to happen, because in that space of stillness, that’s where the inspiration shows up. So getting into that state of balance is exquisite. Lets just take a moment now and do just that.
Stillness Session
Marlise: It’s so great to be able to take just a few moments and connect to that peace. There is a lot of injustice and bigotry that’s been passed down for centuries, what would you say Janet, is the best way for every person listening to support change?
Janet Mock: Expose yourself to greater possibilities of knowing someone outside of your comfort zone, and I know a lot of people are uncomfortable with that, but often being uncomfortable is the first steps towards learning and transcendence and hopefully building greater community.
Marlise: When you are speaking heart to heart you feel good, and it doesn’t matter what size, shape, or color you are. So I want to ask you something that I truly would like to understand more. Your life has clearly become a continual teaching moment. But what was it that upset you so much on your interview at CNN? Was it something he said – that you started off life as a boy? Tell us what that was all about.
