Former Governor Gary Johnson: The Future of Cannabis Oil
Gary Earl Johnson is an American businessman and politician. He served as the 29th Governor of New Mexico from 1995 to 2003, as a member of the Republican Party and was the Libertarian Party nominee for President of the United States in the 2012 election. In November 2014 Johnson announced that he would run again for the Libertarian Party presidential nomination in 2016. Born in Minot, North Dakota, Johnson moved with his family to New Mexico in his childhood. While a student at the University of New Mexico in 1974, Johnson sustained himself financially by working as a door-to-door handyman. In 1976 he founded Big J Enterprises, which grew from this one-person venture to become one of New Mexico’s largest construction companies. In July 2014 Johnson was named president and CEO of Cannabis Sativa Inc., a Nevada-based company that aims primarily to sell medical cannabis products in states where medicinal and/or recreational cannabis is legal.
Marlise Karlin interviews Former Gov. Gary Johnson on Why He’s Behind Cannabis Oil (For OMTIMES)
In this interview Former Governor of New Mexico and Presidential Candidate in 2012, Gary Johnson talks to radio host and founder of the Simplicity of Stillness Method, Marlise Karlin. Governor Johnson is a health enthusiast, who doesn’t drink alcohol or caffeine and supports the legalization of cannabis. In his new position as the CEO of a cannabis company, he explains his insights on the controversies surrounding cannabis and why he thinks medicinal cannabis can make a better future for us all.
Marlise Karlin: Most people have been skeptical of the legalization of marijuana. However, since Dr. Sanjay Gupta’s CNN documentary reported the remarkable medicinal benefits of cannabis when given to kids with life threatening illnesses, citizens in more than 20 states have voted to approve its legalization for medical use. In 2005 when you had a near fatal accident you used medicinal marijuana for pain control. Is that what sparked your conviction?
Gary Johnson: It goes back to when I was 17-1/2 years old. I smoked marijuana along with 10’s of millions of other Americans and I was struck by how much safer marijuana was than alcohol. What a wonderful alternative, and by that I mean, there just didn’t seem to be any side effects to it. I have come to recognize that there are side effects, that there is a responsibility that goes along with using marijuana recreationally. I have always maintained that somebody, who in another person’s eyes makes a bad choice by smoking it, is anything but criminal. Unless of course you are becoming impaired and getting behind the wheel of a car arguably putting someone else in harm’s way.
