Gary Johnson: The Future of Cannabis Oil
Marlise Karlin: That’s another important area to discuss. Once you realize that truly sick people can get relief from using cannabis oil – what can be done? It can’t be transported from one state to the next and scientists are having difficulty getting approval to even study it. So, what can people do to turn this around?
Gary Johnson: Well, this show is terrific – it’s about awareness, just having people understand. The CBD oil does not have the THC, which is the psychoactive ingredient in cannabis. Now, let’s just add THC from the medicinal side, and all of a sudden you’ve got a product that goes head to head with antidepressants, that goes head to head with painkillers which statistically kill 100,000 people a year. Well, there are no documented cases of anybody dying from their use of THC. So when you look at the painkillers and antidepressants, it also opens up a much safer and effective treatments than currently exists. So I am going to offer a bold prediction that within 20 years, 20% of all pharmaceuticals end up to be cannabis based. And I believe that the United States within 10 years is going to legalize marijuana, all the states will. I am also realist, Mississippi, Alabama might hold out but so goes the United States, so goes the world. I think that there will be a legalized environment for cannabis here in a 10-year, 15-year horizon, so that the research and development we talked about earlier is going to happen. Bottom line, these products are safer and arguably more effective.
Marlise Karlin: I have read that you abstain from recreational drugs, alcohol, and even caffeine, but now being the CEO of a company that is going to be making products not only for health but for recreational use, what does that mean? Have you changed your personal position, how do you see these products benefiting people?
Gary Johnson: I have a real aversion to smoking; I think we all recognize the dangers. These are products you suck on. There is a responsibility on our end to label these products safely. I think for someone who has never tried marijuana to take a 10 mg. dose is a safe dose. I know that Maureen Dowd, the syndicated columnist, who went to Colorado, had never tried marijuana before, and consumed 120 mg, 12 times what I would consider safe.
