Thich Nhat Hanh

Thich-Nhat-Hanh_ap1_c_OMTimes

An update to his condition was released on December 13 by Plum Village. The announcement states, “Thay continues to surprise the doctors with his strong vital signs and steady, peaceful breathing. They are still amazed that Thay has been able to survive and even to show small signs of progress. In recent days, Thay has been showing some indications of wakefulness, but he continues to remain in a deep coma. There have been times when Thay had his eyes open for more than two hours, and is responsive, but he is not yet showing clear signs of communication. The doctors remind us that it may be weeks or months before we can understand the damage caused by the hemorrhage and discover the extent of healing that may be possible.”

As indicated, Plum Village will continue to offer updates concerning Thay’s health in the New Year. Having led an extraordinary and mindful life, Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh continues to influence his followers by being an example for others even during his current health situation. Much can be learned by being mindful ourselves, observing and emulating this magnificent and honorable teacher.

Quotes from Followers of Thich Nhat Hanh Reveal How He Has Influenced Their Lives

“His teachings have deeply altered my meditation practice and informed and inspired my own work to a great degree. He really has changed my life!” ~ Colette Baron-Reid, Intuition Expert, Spiritual Medium and Author

“When I was in college, I took a class called Meditation East and West where we studied this great Vietnamese Buddhist monk, teacher and peace activist. In his teachings, Thich Nhat Hanh said we should practice mindfulness in all things, including washing dishes, and if you couldn’t do that, you shouldn’t wash the dishes. When I first read those words, I thought they were absurd – who wants to focus on washing the dishes? A couple of years later, I re-read his book and a lightbulb went off as I realized that his example was all about being aware, being present in the moment, being profoundly alert to your senses of touch, sight, smell, sound, and taste, and how you feel at any given moment. Learning to be in the moment is one of the most important lessons I’ve ever experienced and is the formula for producing more positive energy and less negative energy, which serves to raise our vibrations.” ~ Sherri Cortland, Author
