Jack Canfield: The Success Principles
That’s why personal work on yourself is so critical that you learn how to meet your own needs through things like meditation and doing things like bring you joy and also through learning how to have meaningful relationships with adults often which is scary because you have been rejected or hurt by someone in the past and you are afraid to have that happen again. So we have to heal that wound and then build in the skills and take those risks again to reconnect and build relationships that are effective, functional and work.
Shawne Duperon: You’re promoting another success principle, appreciation, at Authentic Leadership Day coming up May 20 on a PBS live-streaming. Say more about appreciation.
Jack Canfield; It’s Principle number 53 in my book it’s about practicing uncommon appreciation. And by uncommon, I mean more than what most people do, and appreciation does a lot of things. Number one, it serves you on a biophysical level or physiological level. When you are appreciating someone or something, I can be appreciating my cat. I can be appreciating you for a great interview. I can be appreciating my wife for putting cut flowers in the house because I like flowers. I can be appreciating Steve Jobs for having created my Apple computer, my iPhone or my iPod and so forth because I really appreciate that he did that. But I could also just be appreciating God and be grateful for my life or for the abundance and so forth. But when I am doing that, when I am in the state of appreciation that is one of the highest vibrations you can possibly get into.
Meister Eckhart, who is a German mystic philosopher, said if the only prayer you ever prayed was thank you that would be enough. That’s why we always say amen, and we are always saying thank you. We say grace at a meal because we are saying thank you for this abundance of food. Many people on the planet get one meal a day and so people go days without any food at all. So when I am in that state of appreciating, my vibrational rate goes up. That heals my body and helps me feel better. It secretes endorphins into my brain. It reduces stress. People that are more appreciative live longer. We find out that they actually get sick less often and when they do get sick, they heal faster. Their relationships last longer. And so that’s just the internal stuff that’s good for you. Externally, what happens when I appreciate somebody is that it creates a vibrational shift in them as well. You just tell anybody I really love you, I appreciate that you did that. You watch their face light up.
