Better Intuition Through Improv
Become a Better Intuitive Through Improv
by Allen Vaysberg
If you wish to increase your intuitive and manifesting abilities, you may be guided to take an Improv class. Sure, books and spiritual classes are great, but doing improv is the fastest way to practice the most important skills needed for quick manifestations or heightening of your intuitive abilities.
One of those skills involves being in the present moment. Many books and spiritual teachers speak of it. For instance, Panache Desai refers to it in terms of the state of nothingness. Spending time there disconnects you from the worries and needs of your life and allows you to just be. In that state of observation, you are pure love and are consciousness residing in the fifth dimension. From there, you are able to heal and create.
Another important skill is the ability to let go and say the first thing that comes to mind. Psychic Medium Lisa Williams teaches in her mediumship classes to surrender, which allows you to step aside, let go of fears, drop the ego and just receive information from the Divine. With this practice, you don’t analyze or question; you simply trust that whatever comes out is perfect and will be understood by the client. In doing so, you are not yourself, but a channel through which communication flows.
From the perspective of manifestation, we learn to set our intentions, heighten our emotions, let go and live as if. Dr. Joe Dispenza speaks of the void, which is a quantum field of infinite possibilities. One needs to routinely on a daily basis spend time in the void and disconnect from self – the aspect of self, which has insecurities and problems, and constantly lives in the past or in the future. In his teachings, he directs you to go to the void to access the present in order to heal and create by clearly setting your intention, marrying it with heightened emotions and living as if the outcome has already happened.
So what does improv have to do with all this? Improv is short for improvisation or the act/art of creating a scene in the theatre without previous preparation. No scripts, no props; just you and your partner on a stage taking a suggestion from the audience and creating on the fly. The basic tenets of improv are “Yes…And,” which is why it is so integral for your intuitive and manifesting prowess.
The most important part of improv is being completely present in the moment. It is you and your partner, and you are NOT allowed to think ahead. You are routinely told to get out of your head and to not think. No planning jokes and you aren’t writing a script – you are living in one. You are quite literally going with the flow. The present moment is your only focus and allowing yourself to reside there constantly is key to being successful. You have no agenda and you hold no bias; you are simply being.
The second aspect of improv involves acceptance, neutrality and disconnect from what you are about to say. What happens, happens. Whatever your partner says is law. That’s the “Yes” part. If you partner says, “Dr. Sanderson, your task for today is measuring the rectal temperature of Putin’s pet ferret,” your response to that better be imagining yourself as Dr. Sanderson and fully embracing that persona and his predicament. The “And” part is saying the first thing that comes to mind such as “am I allowed to use Mr. Putin’s oral thermometer?” and seeing where the story takes you. You cannot allow yourself to think ahead, you simply have to trust in what will come out.
The third step in improv pertains to creation and living as if. In our scene, you have to imagine and pretend to hold a thermometer and the ferret. Improv doesn’t use physical objects for props. Thus, you have to visualize them to such a degree that the audience sees them in your hands. What an incredible way to practice manifesting by turning a thought into a materialization and holding it.
To be a better intuitive and to learn how to manifest, one needs to master being in the present, detachment and trust in the first thing that comes to mind as well as living as if. Improv provides a fertile training ground on which you can practice all of the above mentioned skills, overcome many of your fears, discover yourself and have fun along the way. Sign up for a class, get up on stage and be. You might feel a bit uncomfortable at first, but will thank me later!
