OMTIMES: Have you had spiritual and transcendent experiences as a result of your daily practice? If so can you share one?
Deva Premal & Miten: The mantras have blessed us with a continual ‘spiritual and transcendental experience’. as for sharing ‘one’ in particular, I feel it is best to refer to the many, many emails and messages we have received where people have related their experiences of how the music and the mantras have impacted their lives. It is truly awe inspiring
OMTIMES: How is devotional music different from a regular inspirational music?
Deva Premal & Miten: Devotional music is non-directional.Actually, if anything, it is internalized.
Regular inspirational music is very much directed outwards, it is an emotional description of day to day events, love affairs, for instance; or political comment, just a way to express anger, desire, hope, passion, and sadness. Devotional music does not address these issues at all. Devotional music (in our case, the mantras) are removed from emotional content – they are way beyond that dimension.
OMTIMES: A new fantastic CD, a World Tour…please tell us what else is news in the Deva Premal & Mitten Universe?
Deva Premal & Miten: After 17 albums, we’re not finished yet! We are planning an all-star ‘Gayatri mantra meditation album’ – hopefully, to include Ringo Starr, Cher, sting, John McLaughlin… (Imagine THAT!!) And more, our vision is to make it a benefit album for the people of Nepal, who are still struggling with immense situations since the earthquake – which are still happening by the way… It’s just a dream…but we’re good at welcoming miracles before breakfast! We also have a choir album planned – the joy and ecstasy that is expressed in our holiday groups is yet to be captured on cd… And then there is the concerts, which we have no plans to stop…just yet.
