Dechen Shak-Dagsay: Day Tomorrow

Dechen Shak-Dagsay

And this is what makes a mantra so special, especially for the world that we are in today because everything is turned upside down. We have wars. We have tragedies happening every day. So, the mantra is a protection for our mind, but also for our body. And we believe that chanting a mantra in the first place calms our mind. Because all our problems, all our human problems, are created because of an unbalanced and disturbed mind. When we think that every war has had its start in a troubled mind and a destructive mind, it is so important that we try to restore a balanced mind and the inner balance and the–and a happy mind, because no happy mind is about–is going to start a war. It’s always a very–the negative force of the negative mindset that is going to harm others.

Victor Fuhrman: Now, it’s interesting because you’ve balanced–the word balance is very important here–a very successful career in marketing and an equally amazing calling, sharing the ageless wisdom of Tibet in Song and chant with a worldwide audience. How would you compare the two paths of the business world and the chanting and the mantra world?

Dechen Shak-Dagsay: Yes, indeed they–at the first–you know, at the first moment, you would think that this is a huge, huge difference and a big gap. But, when you look at it closer, all we do in life, we try to lead a meaningful and–a meaningful life.

And if you’re in a corporate, you can also make whatever you do meaningful by putting the right motivation into your work. So, when you work in an office and your mindset, your motivation is such that you–may you, with your action, with your words, with your thoughts, harm no others, but be useful and bring happiness to your surrounding, this can be very inspiring and very nice too.

And of course, to be honest, what I’m doing now, of course, is very, very fulfilling. But, I’d like to add when I was working in the corporates, it was fascinating to see because the people always loved to hear when I talked about the Tibetan Buddhist philosophy. They really loved it, and they say–they always said, you know, talking to me was–it just gave them a beautiful chance of calming down their mind and really feeling peace.
