Debra Silverman: The Missing Element
An Interview with Debra Silverman: The Missing Element
Interview by Rick DiClementi
When Debra Silverman was just 20 years old, she met an astrologer who blew her mind and changed her world forever. She had officially been introduced to the world of Astrology.
It was then that she realized the stars in her own world had aligned just right, and she had found her life’s purpose.
Debra went on to deeply study the mind and body, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology & Dance from York University and a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University.
Over the past 37 years of professional experience and private practice, she has specialized in helping thousands of individuals achieve emotional health and wisdom based on their unique personality and the four elements: water, air earth, and fire. Her work with families, individuals, and couples has her standing out in a sea of therapists and coaches.

Rick DiClementi: we want to welcome you from OMTimes and thank you for being with us, Debra Silverman. Give us a little Insight about yourself? What have you been up to all these years?
Debra Silverman: Well, I am specifically a psychological astrologer. My fascination is understanding the human psyche from the point of view of the observer. I’ve just completed a book. It came out March 15th. It’s called The Missing Element, and the subtitle is Inspiring Compassion for the Human Condition because my theory is we’re all screwed up. As a design, the human mind has these two functions that are in a war, and the nature of the human psyche is to be conflicted. Don’t ask me why. It’s confusing. But, the good news is astrology helps to give compassion ‘because it doesn’t go away, as you know.
Rick DiClementi: I really liked your approach. I read your book called The Missing Element. And for those of you that don’t know, please explain to us what the elements are, and what it means by missing.
Debra Silverman: So, the elements are the foundation of all of the astrology and it’s interesting, the American Indians with the four directions and the noble truths from the Buddhists, and the Hawaiians do the hula and the four directions. So, the four elements are just the basis of all creation, and they show up in your personality. There’re four different personality types. One is water, who are the emotionally vulnerable, sensitive, reclusive, secretive internal people, the introverts. Air is what I am. They talk. They think. They write. They have ideas and questions and they’re endlessly insatiable about wanting to understand the mind. And they tend to detach. They tend to be fickle. And they change a lot. At their best they’re storytellers. The third is earth. They are the practical, grounded, result oriented, “prove it to me”, show me, organized, letters and numbers, cross the T’s, dot the very grounded, basic people who want to show us that this reality has a very strong function ability as compared to the ideas or the emotionality of the first category. And the last is fire. And they’re like the juicy, inspired, feisty, physical, athletic, wild, addictive part of us that just wants to have a party and wishes everybody would just go home now. So, there’re four different personality types. And they’re all having different impulses and they live inside of you. And the reason why it’s called the missing element is that I make the analogy of four wheels on a car. And if one of the wheels is down, the whole system goes off. So, you have to have four balanced elements to function and reach for mastery.
