Guru Ganesha: The Ageless Art of Kirtan

Guru Ganesha_Kirtan_OMTimesLiane Buck:  Um-hmm.  I think it’s fantastic.  What you do in your group is just incredible, because it’s liberating. Anything that has to do with pure love liberates.

Guru Ganesha: Yeah. And people feel exact That. People feel the band, the people that I tour with, we really love each other, you know, and we feel so grateful to each other.  So, whenever we sit down to play music, there’s such a joy It’s alchemy. It’s not just the mantras.  But, when everybody’s singing the mantras and singing them, in an ego-less way, and singing them out of joy, it’s so contagious. Everybody feels the joy.  And we all need that.  We all need that experience.

Liane Buck: So, I understood you exactly when you reinvented yourself.  Actually, not reinvent yourself, you took your layers out to be your real self.  But, I think it’s real, really interesting.

Guru Ganesha: Well, you were listening to your soul, and you compare the wisdom that’s being transmitted from deep inside yourself with the other information that you’re being transmitted to you from the people around you. You’ve got to embrace the beliefs that really resonate with you and bring you the greatest sense of well-being.

Liane Buck:  Yes.

Guru Ganesha:  And I honor everyone for their beliefs, because, I don’t necessarily feel like anybody has the exclusive.  There are so many different beautiful ways to be devotional. One thing I do know is every child is born to love.  Every little baby loves to hug and be hugged and loved. It’s as Nelson Mandela said.  No child is born to hate.  They’re born to love.  They have to be taught to hate.  I really believe that.

Liane Buck:  one of the things that I believe is that God has many manifestations.  The Same phrase as before, you know, who doesn’t see God in all doesn’t see God at all. Anyhow, let’s go back to the questions because I don’t want to exhaust you.

Guru Ganesha:  Well, you’re not exhausting me.  I am getting uplifted by our time together.

Liane Buck:  Oh, my goodness, yes. Sure. So, what is it that you think that we could do as a spiritual community now with all the colors and all the different paths, as a conscious community, we could do together to collaborate into a birth of a new Earth, at least, an Earth that is more compassionate?

Guru Ganesha:  Well, I love what’s happening in the community in the sacred chant community, we’re gathering together and we’re honoring and appreciating each other.  And don’t you love it when we all get-together and we chant together and we chant each other’s mantras with love?

Because I feel there are so many beautiful paths.  And they’re basically at the core all of these beautiful paths are teaching what Jesus taught too, which is to be kind and to be compassionate and to honor each other, not just tolerate each other, but, really appreciate the diversity, and not just live with each other and not just live with each other, but really truly live for each other. That’s what’s happening when you to go to ecstatic chants at the Omega in Rhinebeck, New York and Bhakti Fest and Sat Nam Fest.  And I think we’re moving in a beautiful direction despite you turning on the TV and there’s a lot of ugliness. That hasn’t been my reality, because I’ve traveled all over the world, and particularly over the last 20 years, and I feel like there are millions of people that have now embraced yoga and different type of yoga paths and meditation and the healing arts.  And I really feel like that the world is reaching a tipping point and in a very positive way. It doesn’t get that much media attention.  But fortunately, people like yourself are getting it out there and are letting people know about all the wonderful things that are going on and all the great souls.  It’s no longer just one great soul walking the planet there are literally thousands of great enlightened souls walking the earth now. To me, everybody is my teacher, Liane, everybody.  And, you know, some people teach–so many people teach you what to do and a lot of people teach you what not to do, but everybody’s teaching all the time.  And you see it all as God, then you get so much guidance. I think everybody has the capacity to live a joy filled a life. Even in tragedy, there can be a joy.
