Mindful Emotions: Creating Our Own Heaven On Earth
Mindfulness and Emotions
Mindfulness can create heaven right here on earth. We don’t have to wait for a future day to see that happen; the very act of being mindful helps us anchor to our reality within, to the present moment. As a result, two things leave us along with the past and future; they are the emotions of anger and fear. It is this anger and fear that steal the sacredness of life. When we are in mindful contemplation of the self within, the inner light protects us, dispelling all darkness of these negative emotions and ushering in only positive feelings of love and compassion.
Just as a mirror covered with dust cannot reflect a clear image, so also a mind with its contents of fear, anxiety, jealousy and anger cannot experience the world that is filled with infinite beauty and joy. Mindfulness and meditation essentially help us cleanse our minds of these emotions.
We begin by identifying the areas from where our fear and anger are being generated. A little heart searching will help us discover the areas. Once it is done, the next course of action is to resolve deeply to transform these emotions. To do this we need to be more aware and conscious about our routine behavioral patterns of our life. We have to particularly observe them when all is well and when we are not fearful or angry. At that time we consciously give suggestions to our subconscious mind that we no longer need these negative emotions and that we are prepared to release them into the light.
Fear and Anxiety
Fear and tension about the future rob us of the present moment. Most likely what we fear will never happen. If we trust in the divine power of protection and benevolence, then why should we spend time worrying about the negative possibilities?
All fears and all material pleasures are games of our ego. They are phantoms that play in the mind as long as we are unconsciously thinking our body and mind to be who we are! All the negative brooding is our ego’s trick that allows our ego to survive. We feed our ego with all the negativity. We feed our ego with our continuous chase to find happiness outside of us while the source of all joy and happiness is essentially within us, rooted in our being, not in the ego.
One of the major stumbling blocks in the path of spirituality is our negative self-belief, our self-imposed limitations. To be successful on the path of spirituality, it demands our full commitment to tear apart any sense of fear, doubt, or anxieties. We should never pay any heed to what people say about us, but deeply contemplate on our innate divinity, our magnificence and our expansion. We all need to overcome our negative self-beliefs and self-imposed limitations to become aware of who we truly are, beings of energy and light.
As we learn to accept ourselves, appreciate ourselves, love ourselves, then we will not become fearful or stressed. We will do nothing that hurts our body and our mind. We will only do that which adds to our moment to moment celebration of life by accepting ourselves as we are and then moving on to enjoy our beautiful, mindful life.
To keep our inner poise, we repeat over and over the words, “I am a spirit unscathed by any external threats or internal fears. In my mind I reign supreme, and take full responsibility of filling my mind with thoughts that can only evoke peace, forgiveness and love, for myself and for all others.”
When our life flows from the center of our being, then all judgments and condemnations, fears and insecurities, miseries and unhappiness disappear, giving place to intense unconditional love and compassion, and giving and forgiving.
Anger
It is not wise to condemn our anger. Whenever we get disturbed with any negative emotions and feel guilty about it we only intensify it. Negative energies thrive on our rejection and condemnation. Aren’t these negative emotions that taught you so much about life? Respect them for being the teacher, teaching you to focus more on the Light that shines beyond all clouds. Anger is energy in manifestation. Nothing exists without a purpose.
To find the purpose of our anger we just become mindful and watchful when the smoke of anger starts to occupy our mind space. Consciously do it once, feel the difference it can create by sheer observation of the anger without judgment or condemnation. The process of consciously just observing our anger separates us from the out of control feelings, and gives us an opportunity to choose whether an angry response is indicated for this situation.
A self-managed angry response can fulfill a purpose; it is necessary for a parent to show anger to the child to get their attention. Anger is only bad when it is unbridled, when it is out of control. You can choose to show anger and not be overcome with your anger.
Mindful Breathing and Meditation Are the Tools We Need!
The clue to pure happiness is as near as your breath. When you become angry, the rhythm of breath is hellish. Notice how your breathing rhythm changes depending on your emotion. When you are contemplative and meditative, prayerful and forgiving, positive and loving, just feel your breath; it is heavenly. Heaven and hell are not something that belongs to after life; it is right here, now, in your breath.
When fear, anxiety, or rage attacks us, we can shift our thoughts to our breath and take deep long mindful breaths! The fear and anger will leave us!
Conscious breathing helps us to slow down our racing thoughts, which cause the stress. When we are tense about something that is fearful or that we feel angry about, a train of thought comes, flooding our mind. We are completely lost in the thoughts, however negative they are.
The most important thing is to practice, along with breathing exercises, regular meditation by which we create a much-needed pause to watch our mind and its tendencies. Meditation creates a place of quiet; there is no noise of the mind’s chatter and stress, no past digging of sad memories, or future apprehension and fear. Meditation empowers us to look in the eyes of fear with non-blinking eyes of fearlessness. Once we do this fear will run away from us. Meditation also empowers us to step back from our anger, observe it and transmute its energy into compassion and love.
As we become more and more conscious of our emotions we gradually are able to purge or detoxify our inner clutter. As the mind works from the plane of calm (instead of restlessness) it develops the power to discriminate, to discern, to distill, and filter the unwanted and only focus on those emotions that will make a person happy. This is a gradual process of inner transformation. We all have the power to surmount it through transmutation, moving from negativity to a state of positive celebration! Then we truly can create our own heaven on earth!
