How to Feel Fulfillment in the Face of Adversity

fulfillment_adversity_OMTimes

There are times when something goes wrong, and times when it seems everything is going wrong. It can be difficult to stay optimistic and motivated in the face of adversity, when the majority of the day is spent doing battle with internal and external issues. We have all been there: an outside circumstance generates internal doubt, fear, and worry. And then it spreads, seemingly pulling more problems and making us aware of all the negative aspects of life.

Annoying circumstances, difficult people, and boring jobs chip away at us, taking bits of our hope and positive energy with it. The diminishment is felt across the board, and succumbing to the detrimental effect of adversity becomes more likely. It darkens our outlook, inhibits enthusiasm, and causes frustration, anger, and sadness. The belief that abundance and joy is available evades us, plunging us deeper into lack and gloom.

The Ace of Cups: Snapping Out of Adversity

To break the cycle and get back on track, a sense of fulfillment is needed. Some may start with hope, yet this is simply a wish rather than an active embodiment of the desired feeling. To feel joy at what we are doing and experiencing is the goal. Happiness is the number one indicator on the path to fulfillment. We need to enjoy our work, our relationships, and our solitary time while we celebrate who we are at the core in order to feel fulfilled. The alignment of our true nature, our purpose, and our experiences in expressing that purpose brings about fulfillment.

As with the Ace of Cups card, the key here is in knowing that “Your cup runneth over.” No matter what is going on, there are activities that stimulate and engage. Additionally, focusing on the aspects of life where the ability to make a difference and to have control elevates the energetic frequency and heightens our mood. When we are in the midst of right action, that is, the behaviors aligning with what is for the highest good, we flow and instinctively know what to do. There is no doubt and no questioning of the Self.

This flow is evident in the Ace of Cups and the water flows easily and abundantly from the chalice, showing the infinite abundance of the hand of the universe available to all of us. The only thing that cuts off this flow is our own thinking, with thoughts of lack, stagnation, and the biggest enemies of all: fear, doubt, and worry. At the same time, there are lessons held in our personal trials and tribulations that can move us into a realm of satisfaction. In the card above, the lotus flowers symbolize growth that can come from adversity. With its roots planted in the muddy soil of the river or pond bottom, a beautiful blossom appears above the water. It grows beyond where the environment lacks nourishment and raises its head on the surface, face toward the sun.

Seize New Opportunities for Fulfillment

The hand of the universal life force presents us with opportunities to thrive, rising above hardship. It is not our task to simply endure suffering, but to move past it through the lessons held within the situation. The womb of the chalice waits to give birth to the flow of creativity and the expression of our natural gifts. In this way, we gain fulfillment as we come fully into ourselves despite the negativity that surrounds us.

Think of the circumstances where we have the ability to bring a smile to someone’s day, to care for those we love and take joy in their safety and comfort. This brings satisfaction through taking worthwhile action for the benefit of another. As we bring happiness to others, we bring it into our own life.

If learning something new brings fulfillment, identify a new course of study. Learning opportunities abound on the Internet and at local educational institutions. Increased understanding can bring new ways to deal with difficulty, to see things differently, and to take back control, thereby creating a sense of fulfillment.
