Deborah Livingston: A Lesson In Eternity

DEBORAH LIVINGSTON_Omtimes_November_2016Deborah Livingston has been blessed with the gift of psychic/mediumship/ animal communication since childhood. She first recognized the 3 C’s of clairvoyance, clairaudience, and clairsentience of spirit, the premonitions through vivid dreams, which foretold visions of the future and animal communication as a young girl. Later in life, after a spiritual transformation, she came to embrace her unique abilities by using her gifts to heal and comfort those who had lost loved ones and proved the existence of infinite spirit through the power of mediumship and intuitive spiritual assessments readings.

SHAY PARKER: I’m Shay Parker, and I’m very happy to be interviewing Deborah Livingston, our Cover Story for the second November issue of OM Times. Deborah is an Intuitive Psychic Medium, she is an International Intuitive Psychic Medium. She does spiritual psychic assessments; she’s also an animal communicator. She’s an award-winning Psychic Medium, as well, and a member of www.bestamericanpsychics.com of course. So, Deborah, could you first elaborate a bit upon how you got into the whole psychic mediumship thing and then the training that you so far have experienced in your life.

DEBORAH LIVINGSTON: Absolutely. First, mediumship training, in my opinion, is developing a code of conduct for a sacred communication between two worlds, while being available to the spirit world at the same time. Some mediums say they don’t need it because they were born that why but guidance from others who have walked this path first nurtures our unfoldment which is eternal. No one is ever there. If they think they are, then perhaps ego is running the show, not their spirit. It is my belief we are all in training for something in this life, and we shouldn’t deny ourselves of such. Lifelong training allows me to be able to work with spirit, with integrity, authenticity, compassion, joy, laughter, and trust. Yes, we are all born with these gifts but when we are a spirit encased in human form we have extreme limitations. Our spirit has become more limited than we can even imagine. And so, it is those that remain wider open with their hearts; it is the essence of their personality that enables them to keep going. That, and the fact that the spirit world has decided that those are the ones. Certain individuals will keep going. Although, if one chooses to engage in exercising their own individual gifts before a conditioning of society, parents, and so forth, they can jump into it at any time.

I, as a small child, had experiences that I thought everyone had. You know, I could hear animals talking to me, I always would be talking to what society calls imaginary friends. Well, they’re not imaginary friends; they’re the spirit world and nature. So, I came to a rude awakening when I went to kindergarten first grade and started talking about it and then got made fun of. You know, it’s a very strong intuition as well that goes with it. I think as far as education-wise within psychic mediumship, it’s very important, just as I went to school for Architecture. Now you can’t just go out and build a building because you think you know how it’s built, you should study on how it’s built. Just as there are building blocks for mediumship. There are so many teachers/tutors that teach and it’s based on their experiences of their tutors, and their tutors and many of these tutors – specifically Gordon Higginson – training in the spiritual world is for life and beyond. No-one is ever there, and just as there are no absolutes in life everything is changing. So, it’s how Spirit works with you and how you work with them. So, it’s imperative that you must continue your training.

SHAY PARKER: I wanted to ask you, if you could elaborate on Gordon a bit, and where he does his training because I know the answer to it but I want to tell all our readers where you have primarily changed. I think it’s so important, and we’re going to distinguish the differences between the locations you have trained in and some of the other locations because I know that there is a huge difference between overseas training for psychic mediumship as opposed to training here within the States.

DEBORAH LIVINGSTON: Well, there are a couple of Gordons. One is still here with us on earth – that’s Gordon Smith – and I highly respect his philosophy of this area. But Gordon Higginson today, even though he’s in the spirit world, still teaches me today– especially when I go over to the Arthur Finlay College. He ran the Arthur Finlay College for Arthur Finlay himself, and he was also President of the Spiritual International Union, in addition to a very heavy mediumship practice.

SHAY PARKER: So, talk to us about how. You have trained here in the States, but you primarily have spent a lot of years training overseas at these very, very well-known institutions. Can you differentiate for us – what stands out mainly with the differences in training here in the States versus over there?

DEBORAH LIVINGSTON: I think the biggest difference would be in understanding the history of spiritualism; understanding the science of it, the philosophy. It’s a non-denominational religion. But you should have an understanding of all of us. You must have an understanding of what the purposes of mediumship are. You have to have a foundation and understanding of what the principles are. You have to understand that you’re never there. There’s a discipline involved. There’s an unfoldment involved. There is the development of your own spirit – which Gordon if he were a teacher here; the first thing he would say is that you must sit in your own power. It’s all about sitting, sitting, sitting with your own spirit. Getting to know what that power feels like. That’s the biggest difference, and I did not get that here.

SHAY PARKER: Obviously, we are a much younger country here, so I think they perhaps just don’t understand the different levels. I like what you said earlier about being an Architect. Just because you may as a young child know how to draw a building, or build with building blocks, it doesn’t mean that you can go out and design a skyscraper just off the top of your head. I think that’s a great analogy because, for instance, at bestamericanpsychics you know we test a lot of different psychics and a lot of different people that come to us, and what I often get feedback on is we ask the question to potential members of the site that are seeking approval. We say: “What are your thoughts on professional training as a Psychic Medium?” and we sometimes get the answer “Well I’m a natural-born medium, I don’t need any training.”

I would like you, if you can, to elaborate upon your opinion on that. I mean this came very naturally to you, and it was something you had throughout your entire childhood. So, what made you at some point say “Yes I have this natural gift. However, I need to take it a step further?” I mean what did that look like for you? Where was that point of delineation where you said OK, I’m not just going to say I know how to do this because it’s a natural gift, it’s like breathing or seeing, I need to take it a step further?

DEBORAH LIVINGSTON: A very good question. First, it’s OK to have the gift, but you should know how to use it. It’s like if you buy something that says ‘assembly required’ you’re just going to go at it and put it together, because you know you can, or are you going to read the instructions?

SHAY PARKER: That’s a great point. How many people after reading this right now are going to say?

DEBORAH LIVINGSTON: But there are a lot of do’s and don’ts with mediumship, and there’s also a lot of ethics and values. You’ve got to know how to carry yourself. It’s about presentation. You must have an understanding of what the purposes are of mediumship. Not just to say “I can do this.” There’s a reason why we have it. It’s to prove survival of our spirit beyond earth, an eternity of the spirit. It’s also to deliver guidance and healing through messages of loved ones in the spirit world to your sitter. It’s from spirit, through spirit to spirit. You have to learn how to control it, it doesn’t control you. We are the link between two worlds and you really need to know how. It’s development; it’s an ongoing practice and ongoing development.

SHAY PARKER: In other words, you just knew automatically that this was something that Spirit was calling you to do. You knew that you had a natural gift, but you also knew there was a lot more to learn. Would I be correct in saying that?
