Tom O’Bryan: The Autoimmune Fix
So, you want the families of probiotics in your gut, not just one or two.
So, the recommendation that we give to our people is that you go to any natural food store, buy four or five different fermented vegetables. Just make sure they’re not pasteurized. You may buy sauerkraut, you buy kimchi, you buy curry flavored fermented vegetables, you buy fermented beets. Every day, you walk by the refrigerator with a fork, and you just take a fork full, just one fork full every day because the fermentation process of vegetables produces the good bacteria that thrive in your gut. And by varying what you’re taking, you’re inoculating yourself with many, many different families of the good bacteria. And so, you’re helping to protect your gut. So, that’s the probiotics, the good bacteria. It’s okay to take a probiotic supplement, of course. It’s helpful. But, the bigger picture is the diversity, and by eating a few fermented vegetables every day, you’re going to change your microbiome substantially within a few months to a much healthier microbiome.
