Numerology Case Study: Prince and Martha Stewart

Are you thinking of changing your name? A case study of performer “Prince”  and Martha  Stewart illustrate the numerological effect of a name change.

Is there such a thing as bad numbers in a name?

Here is a typical comment I get as a numerologist: “I think maybe I should change my name. When I add up the letters of my name, the sum is a 46, which reduces to a 1. Is “one” a bad number to have? It seems like my name hasn’t worked well for me in my life. I am so very disappointed.

I will lead with a simple answer. I do not believe in “bad” numbers. All numbers have its brilliance and its shadow. It is your attitude and the way you work with the qualities you have, that helps you thrive in life.

How do you calculate a name’s expression in numerology?

Numerology can tell you about your challenges in your life as well as the brilliance. We begin by examining the numbers in your birthday (your destiny) as well as the numbers that appear in your name.

To find the expression number (the sum of all the letters in your name), examine a person’s full birth name. Next look at the alpha-numerical equivalence. As a numerologist, I work with the Pythagoras method for my numerology calculations. This method is based on the numbers 1-9. Follow the Pythagoras chart below to calculate your name.

This is a Pythagoras chart. Each letter has a numerical theme.

Numerology speaks about “Prince”

As an example of one expression, let’s look at the numbers for the late and brilliant performer, record producer and songwriter, Prince.

Finding the expression number of your name will help you understand how you express yourself in life. Your parents were inspired to give you a name and the vibration of this name will begin the development of how you function in your life. Every number has its brilliance and its challenge.

The letters of Prince Rogers Nelson add up to the dynamic “one.” This expression is the unique leader who marches on his path through his vision and his ideas. Because he was such an innovator, he coined his name as one word ~ Prince. Here we see a double 1, the master 11. In mastery, the 11 is the dynamic inspirer who can influence and motivate others.

The “one” is very strong and independent and thrives on making a mark in the world. The lesson is to trust and love yourself and your mission. The 1’s ego can get in the way at times — like being too controlling or being afraid of what others think. There is much more to look at besides the expression number in a person’s name, such as your soul’s essence (vowels added together) and your value system number (consonants added together). The discussion is vast and will not be covered in this post.

Your Destiny Number

Another important vibration to look at is your destiny number or life purpose number. This is your path in life. Based on the sum of your birthday, the destiny number also has its brilliance and its shadow. There are no wrong numbers, only lessons that you have chosen to learn even before birth. So before you go and change your name, take a look at what you are doing in your life and ask if it feeds your passion. Perhaps you can look at a different approach to a problem you are having. Prince’s destiny was a “9”. The nine’s life purpose is all about the bigger picture and transformation. The “9” is the spiritual warrior. Moreover, wasn’t he all that? The challenge and the shadow of the 9 are to be discouraged by the fact that you are a spiritual pioneer and perhaps no one understands you. How does one cope? Perhaps this was Prince’s brilliance as well as downfall.

Should I Change My Name?

Are you wondering if you should change your name to fix what isn’t working? To reflect on your question, if you feel like you are not doing well in life, first consider, if you are putting yourself down with self-judgment, how can you approach life differently? How can you live in your power and strengths?

A name change comes last and only if you do not feel that your name suits you anymore. It happens with several clients. They know that they want a different name, or perhaps have been given a spiritual name, or looking for a pen name or a new persona as a celebrity in acting or singing.

I can guarantee this. It is not easy to change your name. It would help if you were persistent. Your friends and relatives might be stubborn to call you by a different name. Moreover, you have to live with it before you are even comfortable with it. I always suggest with my clients to live with the new name for at least a month (longer if you are uneasy) till it feels right. Read about Lady Gaga. You may be shocked what the name change did for her. Read more here.

Let’s take Martha Stewart as another example of a name change.

Her birth name was Martha Helen Kostyra. She married and divorced, but kept her married name Martha Stewart. It is a much easier name to pronounce and has the expression of a 5, which is the gregarious energy of a celebrity. Moreover, with the great destiny number of 8, her life’s purpose is to be out there in the world as a successful and prosperous entrepreneur.
